The process of writing

I call myself a writer. Really, I do. But for somebody who is supposed to have words oozing from her fingers (So to speak…) I often have a very hard time getting my ideas into something worthwhile. Continue reading

Twitter Haikus – The Day I Posted 17 Syllables At A Time

The other day, I was bored, so I decided to post on Twitter in ONLY Haikus, because I’m a nerd, and I thought it would be mentally stimulating, and frankly I just wanted to change it up a bit.

Here’s the result: Continue reading

A History of Books, and Why I’m Annoyed with This Era

Yesterday, I went up to my local library for the first time in about 4 years and just got to browse. Actually, it’s technically been about a decade and a half since I did that, since 4 years ago all I needed was to borrow an encyclopedia.

Likewise, I work at a Starbucks that connects to a Chapters, so nearly every shift, I get the chance to walk through at some point and check out the selection of books – the selection that has been slowly being replaced by household items, globes, and cheese making manuals.

Add that to the existing equation of being a Creative Writing/English Major/Minor, and I think it’s safe to say that I have a large exposure to the books of yesterday and today. And I have to admit – I’m upset. Continue reading

7 Reasons You Should Be Watching The Fosters

I have a confession – I’m a bit wary of ABC’s newest show, The Fosters. But not for any reason you might think. Here’s why.

I tend to get attached. I fall for the characters, their stories, their budding relationships – it’s exactly what, I imagine, any TV show wants of their viewer.  This is exactly what happened when I started watching Bunheads, another fabulous ABC show. But now, Bunheads is in limbo, the future of the show seemingly very uncertain, and I’m worried, because I’m already in love with The Fosters. So my plan is to tell you all the reasons that you should be too, so you start watching this gem and carry it through multiple seasons like it deserves. Continue reading

I’m back…

Hello, wordpress. It’s been too long.

Long story short, my social media professor had us switch over our blogging platforms, and that platform has since gone offline. So I’m back. And I’ve learned a lot.

I was reading over the few posts on this current site, that I wrote 2-3 years ago. Tightening was definitely a problem. It likely still is. But I want to try again. I want to try and write things that are important, and mean things to people.  Or at least things I find interesting.

Basically, blogging is a nice break from the insane course load I’ll be resuming in 2 months. For those of you reading that don’t know, I’m a fourth year Creative Writing major, with an English minor, and essentially too many words swarming in my head, that are struggling to make themselves into stories I am passionate about.

Maybe writing a bit every day will help get the juices flowing again.

Are we nice enough?

I’ve decided that, overall,  people kind of suck when it comes to being a good friend.

I’m not talking about my friends specifically. People in general – we’re all a little self-absorbed, and mean. Continue reading

Etiquette in a Waiting Room

We’ve all been there. The waiting room. It’s awkward, it’s germ infested, and usually an extremely easy environment to become uncomfortable in. But there are a few things you can do to make this 5 minute (That turns into an hour) wait a little less awful. Continue reading

Escape

Sometimes, life throws you things you really aren’t ready for.
When you need an escape more than anything else, you can find one. It may not come in exactly the form you were looking for, but you’re so desperate for something to distract you, something to numb you for a little while, that you take it. And even if its nothing near anything you’ve ever experienced it, maybe you’re curious. Maybe you think its what you want. Then, to your surprise, it works. And you tell yourself that it’s just what you need, that you won’t take advantage of it. You’re just treading the water.
Until you get in too deep. Continue reading

Such a Cliche

Seriously, I love old sayings.   Honestly, I wish we could all just speak in cliche all the time.  I mean, how often does “This too shall pass” apply to a situation?  Your awful hangover, seeing the guy you are destined to marry with another chick… basically, when you look back on this in a year, chances are you won’t even realize why you were so upset. Continue reading
