4 Things to Do in Normandy

normandy

When we went to Normandy on our school trip, we made a lot of day trips. The History teachers on the trip were especially thrilled to finally show us some of the sights they’d been teaching us about for years.

By this point in the journey, I had become especially lazy with my travel documenting. In fact, I didn’t write for 9 whole days. So, from the many photos I have and the few summative words of our time in Normandy, I’ve compiled a list of all the best stops in Normandy that one should take if they ever go there. Travel Inspiring Films

travel inspiring

Let me preface this by saying that, despite being a self-proclaimed movie buff, there are a few “destination films” I am embarrassed to admit I have not yet seen. Continue reading

Cheese to go with that W(h)ine?

BordeauxI love cheap wine. I’ll admit it to anyone. There’s something so satisfying about spending $8 on a sweet, fruity bottle to enjoy at a party.  Still, I’ve begun to learn how to appreciate a QUALITY wine as well. This fascination is new; when I was 17, I was not as thrilled as I would be now to spend a few days of my precious Europe trip sampling and touring different wineries. However, I didn’t really get a choice.

The Worst Sunburn of All Time

san sebsThey say you always remember your first, and in the case of San Sebastian, my first experience at a nude beach is one that I will not forget anytime soon.

Freedom in Madrid

MADRIDMadrid is the first city I allowed myself to treat as my own. Perhaps it was the 5 night stay, or perhaps it was the immense amounts of alcohol I consumed, but it was my first time roaming a city and not being overly concerned about how I might make it back to my hotel. Of course, that led to some stupid decision making on my behalf… but more on that in a minute.

Seville… And I’ll Never Find it Again…

seville.JPG
The saddest thing, I think, to ever happen in my travels. I ate at the best restaurant imaginable, and I never wrote down what it was called. Note to self: Kylie, the next time you travel, write down EVERYTHING. I know you thought back then that you’d likely never return to Spain… how could you have known what a travel bug you’d develop over the next few years?

I forgive you. but barely. Now, let’s move on to magical Seville.

My First European City

barcelona
When I was 17, I went on a school trip to Spain and France in the summer before my grade 12 year.  This was an adventure I took largely because my friends were going, and I thought the idea of drinking legally with a group of my favourite people would be a cool way to spend the summer, without parents.  I didn’t really understand the appeal of traveling to Europe itself.  I was not, at the time, interested in history, or art, or culture, to be frank… though I did think the Eiffel Tower seemed pretty.

Still, I went… and this trip sort of changed my life. I just didn’t know it at the time. Continue reading

What’s to Come…

Hey!

So, if you happen to drop upon my blog in the next week or so, you may notice that its sort of… bare.   Totally updated and exciting, but… bare.

I’m in the process of updating the menu, which is why it’s got ALL the places I’ve traveled, with no actual blog entries yet.  They’re coming!  I just need to transfer them over from my travel blog. That’s essentially what’s happening – this is now going to be my interface for ALL posts, so I’m transferring everything over before I start using this one fulltime.

In the meantime, feel free to enjoy my posts from last year aka the last time I actually updated.   More coming ASAP, I promise!
